The Grass Cutter Catfish is very rare in the aquarium trade. Pisces Reef Fish Emporium of Las Vegas, Nevada was able to get their hands on one of these little guys. It is known for its shovel-like mouth that has 4 to 6 nasal barbs. They are silvery grey in color.

The Grass Cutter Catfish is not aggressive to other freshwater fish similar in size, but it will eat anything it can fit in its mouth. Therefore, it is recommended to keep with tankmates of a similar or slightly larger size. It prefers a water temperature from 73-81 degrees Fahrenheit. Catfish are schooling fish. They prefer to be housed in groups of three or more. Catfish aren’t picky eaters. They will eat almost anything. Catfish pellets and bloodworms will do just fine. Grass Cutter Catfish only need to be fed once or twice a day. The Grass Cutter Catfish prefer a lot of open space to swim and some hiding places. Live plants are not recommended because they have the tendency to uproot live plants and nibble on them like a snack earning them the name “Grass Cutter.” Grass Cutter Catfish have a long life span.
