Archer Fish are known for preying on bugs by shooting them down with water droplets from their specialized mouths. Their name mirrors its ability to take down its food both underwater and above the water by spitting an “arch” of water at it. Once a tasty bug is directly above it, it will shoot a powerful stream of water to knock the insect into the water. They are quick swimmers and have more developed eyes than most fish making them excellent hunters. Pisces Reef Fish Emporium knows just how intriguing and captivating the Archer Fish is.

Archer Fish tend to prefer larger aquariums. A tight-fitting canopy is recommended as they are jumper fish. Also, it is ideal to keep the water level of the aquarium a few inches below the top giving them plenty of room to practice their hunting. These little guys do best when given live foods. Archer fish live in both freshwater and brackish water. Brackish water is the combination of both saltwater and freshwater. Archer Fish are schooling fish. Since they tend to remain at the surface for feeding, they won’t bother other fish that remain at lower water levels. Come check out this little guy at Pisces Reef Fish Emporium!
